Technology Trends to Follow

Home » Technology Trends to Follow

January 15, 2016 by Vincent Caruso

As a small business network consultant, we are often asked about the major IT trends we see coming in the future. The one thing we can promise is that technology moves fast! Being aware of the major IT trends can help change your business for the better by making it more efficient,  more profitable, and giving you an edge over your competition. Here is a look at some of the top IT trends affecting small and mid-sized businesses that we think will continue to grow.

  1. Cloud Computing – Everyone from 9 to 90 has heard the phrase the “cloud.” It’s the process of storing files and using computing power via the Internet as opposed to a server and network at your office or storing files only on your local hard drive.  Companies such as Amazon Web, Microsoft, Google, Dropbox, and others offer some terrific services. Using cloud services can help cut costs and increase productivity in any number of ways. Employees can access files on the road or from home without having access to the company network.  Email administration is much easier.  Collaborating with co-workers in different offices is more seamless than ever.  This is trend that will definitely continue to be hot.
  2. 3D Printing – 3D printing has come a long way. The cost of these printers is declining and the field overall is become more competitive and mainstream.  Click here for more information on 3d printers.
  3. BYOD “Bring Your Own Device” – As we move deeper into the digital age, more companies are allowing employees to BYOD or bring their own devices into the work place.  Since tablets and other smart phones are so ubiquitous and powerful now, it’s easier than ever to access company files and work from wherever. Click here for more advantages and disadvantages of BYOD.
